Bethel to hold special recognition for nurses Sunday, April 30 at 11:00 a.m.

In our society, medical care involves a team of medical professionals who provide extraordinary healthcare. The team includes physicians, nurses, pharmacists, therapists (respiratory, occupational, speech, and physical), surgical technicians, administrators, nursing and patient care assistants, environmental professionals, and others. Nurses are essential members of any medical care team and on Sunday, April 30, Bethel Missionary Baptist Church will honor nurses immediately following the 11 AM service.
Nurses are professional caregivers who spend their days assessing patients, reviewing patient histories, coordinating patient care, reviewing and executing physicians’ orders, which includes administering medications, performing nursing procedures, and continually checking patients’ vital signs and symptoms. Monitoring vital signs and symptoms help to prevent complications and to facilitate positive outcomes. Nurse administrators work constantly to provide and coordinate healthcare services within hospitals and community-based clinics.
Not only are nurses professional caregivers, they are also educators. Nurses educate patients and patients’ families. This education often includes making assessments, diagnosing, explaining diagnoses and medical options and procedures, prescribing medications, discussing medications, reviewing short and long-term patient goals, and answering patient and family questions. Nurses teach in academic and hospital settings to train society’s future nurses. Nurses are excellent role models and instructors whom nursing students often remember long after they complete their training. Nurses also work in medical research and in writing health care policies.
The nursing profession includes several levels of training, competency, and skill.

Nurses are frontline medical care providers. A nurse may be the first to greet you in a clinical or office setting or the first to approach your bedside in the hospital setting. Nursing care and education begins upon admission and continues through discharge. After discharge, nursing care and education continues in rehabilitative facilities, skilled nursing facilities, or through home healthcare.
