Slide the City invades Tallahassee

What started off as a gloomy Saturday morning that eventually turned to a beautiful sunny day with the sound of water being placed on the slide and chatter from people waiting to be a part of the first ever Slide the City event in Tallahassee.

 
The city was out in great numbers with food vendors and loud music. The event became more crowded as the day went on.

 
“It has a backyard BBQ feel.” said Kayla Elliot, “It reminds me of something you would see in a movie.”

 
Slide the City kicks off their season with the first slide of the year in Tallahassee and they are very excited to bring this spectacle here.

 
“Last year we took our slip and slide party all over the world and mastered the art of water fun,” said co-owner Spencer Hunn. “This will be the most fun event Tallahassee has ever seen.”

 
Slide the City has been around for two years now with their 2015 summer tour stopping in over 70 cities around the world, and this year Slide the City is on track to produce more than 100 events.
With so much hype built up through promotion on social media and television, local residents were really chomping at the bit to ride the infamous thousand-foot slide.

 
“I’m pretty ecstatic about it,” said Dominique Mack. “I’ve always seen videos for Slide the City and thought it was such a cool concept.

 
The slide went through College Ave and Bronough St. and left major roadsand streets closed in downtown Tallahassee.

 
The event is usually known for just being a fun day but the event represents something more.
“Fifty percent of our profits have gone to charity,” said Hunn.

 
They share a mission to raise awareness for water conservation, the slide is used to re-circulate water use throughout the day which minimizes water use.

 
At the end of the event all the water that is used is recycled back to the community.
“We wanted to create something magical and at the same time raise awareness for something that isn’t talked about a lot,” said Hunn.

 
And according to residents he helped do just that.
The event provided great excitement for Tallahassee residents and with a combination of fun and interaction with others
“I’ve had such a great time here.” said Mack, “I’ve met so many different people here, this is truly an experience I will never forget.”
