An eight-game losing streak that started after the FAMU women’s basketball team won its first game at home under new coach Bridgette Gordon came to an end in the Lawson Center.

The Rattlers rallied from a 28-all halftime tie to beat the Southern the Jaguars 59-53 last Saturday in A SWAC game.

The win was the first for the Rattlers since they beat Jacksonville University on Nov. 25. The Rattlers continued conference play Monday against Grambling in the Lawson Center.

FAMU won the matchup on the board with 42 rebounds in compared to Southern’s 22. Delancy had eight of the Rattlers’ rebounds. Seventeen of FAMU rebounds came off the offensive boards, and the Rattlers also scored 10 points off second-chance opportunities.

FAMU forced 18 Southern turnovers, getting 20 points off the takeaways. Subirats’ two steals led the way for Florida A&M.

In second half of the doubleheader, the FAMU men fell 74-65 to Southern, despite getting a 27-point effort from the bench.

The setback left the Rattlers winless after two conference games, with a 2-11 overall record. Three players score in double figures, led by Hantz Louis-Jeune’s 16 points and nine rebounds. Jalen Speer added 14 points and four assists, and K’Jei Parker helped out with 13 points off the bench.
