Willie Taggart: A wise choice

Florida State University has a great football program. FSU has won championships; FSU has sent a significant number of players to the National Football League; FSU has had Heisman trophy winners; and FSU has a dynamic fan base. The courageous and competent decision by President John Thrasher and Athletic Director Stan Wilcox to hire Willie Taggart as the new head football coach, will make FSU’s football program “GREATER.”

Coach Taggart is 41 years old. He will prove to be an excellent hire. He knows football. He knows how to recruit. He is articulate and engaging. He is a phenomenal motivator. He is the model for the next generation of coaches. My friends, this is the right choice, the wise choice and an historic choice.

Yes, he is the first permanent African American head football coach at Florida State. Yes, it is a major moment for Taggart and the FSU nation. However, he was hired because he can coach. He will win many championships at this place. He will build upon the rich legacy of the great Bobby Bowden and Jimbo Fisher.

I am very, very proud of President John Thrasher; he has done an outstanding job leading his alma mater the last three years. The hiring of Coach Taggart demonstrates to us how blessed we are to have him at the helm. Stan Wilcox, the highly qualified Athletic Director, deserves a round of applause for his leadership. These are some exciting times at FSU. The future is very bright.

We welcome Coach Taggart back home. As he stated, this is his dream job. Congratulations, Coach Taggart! You have been blessed with the opportunity of a lifetime. We will support you all the way with our prayers and presence. Go NOLES! We have one of the best coaches on planet earth!

Be Encouraged!
