As Florida State nears the beginning of its upcoming season, Darin Green, Jr. is poised to leave an enduring mark on the Seminoles’ storied basketball program.
“It came quick,” Green said. “I have played with some great veteran players who have prepared me to be a leader. I have taken that leadership role and I am going to do whatever it takes to get to the NCAA Tournament.”
Green is not just a player; he is a record-setter in the making.
“Scoring and records are just something that come with playing the right way,” said the second-year guard who transferred from UCF. “All good outcomes come with the way we play. With each guy on our team buying into the system the wins will take care of themselves.”
As he enters his final season, he has made 299 career 3-point field goals. He made 91 in his first season as a Seminole in 2023 – the third highest single-season total in school history. With his 91 3-point field goals made last season, he is already ranked 26th on Florida State’s career list of 3-point field goals made. Green, who averages 75 3-point shots made in the first four years of his career, should become one of the top-10 all-time long-range shooters by the end of the upcoming season.
Green averaged a career-high of 13.4 points per game last season and is Florida State’s leading returning scorer heading into this season. His leadership is a driving force for the team.
Green’s impact on the Seminole basketball program extends beyond his scoring and shooting prowess.
“I’m always going to be myself around my teammates,” said Green.
Green shines as a leader and how he guides and inspires his teammates. His dedication to excellence is inspiring.
“I’ve been around Coach Ham, talking to him almost every day, and Coach Jones a lot, and they’ve been telling me how Trent Forrest and those guys did it,” said Green. “I have a good grasp on how to be a leader.”
Green’s collegiate journey began with a standout freshman season at UCF in 2020.
“I definitely owe a lot to Coach Dawkins and his staff at UCF,” said Green.
“I think Coach Ham, Coach Jones, Coach Smith, and Coach Nickelberry at Florida State have helped me continue to grow and build on what I have learned throughout my career. I know that I am becoming a better defensive player as I continue my development.”
Looking ahead, Green is preparing to play professionally, recognizing the invaluable asset he brings to any team as a sharpshooter.
“Every team needs a shooter,” Green states confidently.
As Green embarks on his final season of college basketball, he is beginning to build a legacy at Florida State. With his outstanding shooting skills, leadership qualities, and a burning desire to excel, he is set to etch his name in the history books of both Florda State and college basketball.
