MONTGOMERY, Ala. –-For the first time since 2011 and the second time in program history, Edward Waters captured the HBCU National Championship. The clincher came with a 3-2 victory over Kentucky State in the Tyson Foods Black College World Series title game at Riverwalk Stadium last Saturday.

The win culminated Edward Waters’ first winning season in four years with a 28-27 overall record. The title game also marked the last one for the Tigers before they leave the NAIA and move to the NCAA Division II as members of the SIAC.

Edward Waters took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning with an RBI single from John Nobles and a triple from Keilin Washington.  The Thorobreds got a run back in the bottom of the third inning.

After a scoreless third inning, Nelsido Nunez came through with a run-scoring single that turned out to be the eventual winning run.

The Tigers pitching pitchers navigated several jams down the stretch. Their biggest stop was in the bottom half of the eighth inning, when the Thorobreds loaded the bases with one out. However, the Tigers turned a double play to shut down the threat.
