The Tallahassee Community College men’s outdoor track and field team picked up another post-season honor earlier this month when it was named the sport’s Academic Team of the Year by the National Junior College Athletic Association.

A week earlier, the Eagles garnered the Florida College System Activities Association’s Male Academic Team of the Year award for teams with 10 or fewer participants.

The NJCAA honor marks the first time a TCC team has claimed the top spot within a sport’s rankings.

“I have been delighted to witness our men in spirited, friendly competition with each other, not only for positions on the team, but also for GPA rankings,” said head coach Gary Droze. “Their collective attitude regarding academics sets a culture of emphasis on education that will positively influence incoming team members.”

Seven participants – Rodolph Adonis, Bryce Bass, Mat Maier, Shawn Marcum, Tristen Owens, Ke’Adre Thompson and Nasir Washington – comprised Tallahassee’s team entry, who delivered a 3.48 team GPA, including perfect 4.0 GPAs by Adonis and Thompson.

In addition to men’s outdoor track and field, softball and men’s cross country made the NJCAA team honor roll for posting a cumulative team GPA of 3.0+ over the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 terms.

This is the seventh straight year softball has made the list while it’s cross country’s first NJCAA team recognition.
