TCC dental hygiene student awarded minority scholarship
Special to the Outlook
Jamisha Scott, a dental hygiene student at Tallahassee Community College, is this year’s recipient of the LIBERTY Dental Plan of Florida Minority Scholarship.
Scott was selected for the honor because of her excellent academic performance and outstanding leadership.
“LIBERTY is invested in the communities that we serve, and minority representation in the dental profession is very important to member engagement,” said Heather Stearns, President of LIBERTY Dental Plan of Florida, Inc. “The 2022 Minority Scholarship helps expand career opportunities for African American dental and hygiene school students.”
The scholarship awards Scott $5,000, which will benefit her enrollment in the TCC Dental Hygiene Program for the 2022-2023 school year. Scott is entering her last year in the hygiene program. She became a dental assistant in 2017 and shows tremendous work ethic and dedication to her career.
Eligible candidates for the scholarship are African American and Hispanic American students who are Florida residents enrolled in a Dental School or Dental Hygiene Program. They also have to plan to practice in Florida for at least two years after program completion. Scott was chosen based on her academic performance, including GPA, letters of recommendation, and participation in extracurricular activities, school organizations, and community service.
