On the evening of Oct. 28, Tallahassee Magazine hosted its 16th annual “Best of Tallahassee” awards.
Tallahassee Magazine is a bi-monthly magazine set to “capture the essence of Florida’s vibrant capital city.” This year, they are celebrating 36 years of being the regions premier lifestyle magazine.
“We are so dedicated to the Tallahassee area, we want to publish and promote the area from the attractions, education, culture, entertainment, the people and everything about the city,” said McKenzie Burleigh Lohbeck, director of sales and marketing at Rowland Publishing with Tallahassee Magazine.
In the May/June issue, readers were given a tear-out ballot sheet by the magazine with over 115 sub-categories in the food, entertainment and health industries including “Best Appetizer,” “Best Photography” and “Best Casual Dining.” After submitting their businesses of choice, the ballots were then sent to Thomas Howell Ferguson P.A., a local accounting service, to ensure the votes were accurately calculated.
The sun had just begun to set as hundreds of business professionals, city delegates and magazine subscribers made their way into The Edison Restaurant. Musical selections from “Best Local Band” winner, Tom and The Cats, echoed throughout Cascades Park.
Local Frozen Yogurt Chain, Nuberri Frozen Yogurt, won the award for “Best Ice Cream and Frozen Dessert.” “We’ve been here five years and to be recognized as the ‘Best of Tallahassee’ is a wonderful achievement.” said David Sirkis, owner and general manager of Nuberri Frozen Yogurt.
A few of the night’s winners included: “Best Local Park” – Cascades Park, “Best Bakery” – The Cake Shop, “Best Catering” – Klassic Katering, “Best Printing/Copying Service” – Target Copy and “Best Teen Shopping” – Sparkle by Madison
Takila Brooks, administrative liason and Tiana Smith, supervisor of health information management for North Florida Women’s Care were elated to receive the “Best OB/GYN” award. “We have won this award in the past but as always, we are honored and we are glad to know our physicians are providing quality care to the women in the city.”
To everyone’s surprise, not all of the first and second place winners were announced at the awards ceremony but instead, will be featured in a special edition of the magazine.
