Rattlers’ volleyball team has busy road schedule before home opener

FAMU’s volleyball team will begin its quest for a third consecutive SWAC championship, facing West Florida in an exhibition match. The two teams will meet Saturday at Pensacola Sports Complex, beginning at 1 p.m.
Following the tune-up match against West Florida, the Rattlers will open the regular season in the UAB Tournament, which is scheduled for Aug. 25 to 27 in Birmingham, Ala. Other teams scheduled for the tournament are Austin Peay, Buffalo, and UAB.
Following the UAB Tournament, the Rattlers will travel to Jacksonville, Fla., for three matches in two days. They will face Citadel and Northern Arizona in back-to-back matches on Sept. 1. The following day, the Rattlers take on Jacksonville.
After two straight weeks on the road, the Rattlers will return to Tallahassee to host a weekend tournament from Sept. 7 – 10. Participating teams are South Alabama, Stetson and Georgia Tech.
FAMU will follow that by traveling to Charleston, South Carolina, for their final non-conference tournament playing the Citadel and Charleston Southern on Sept. 15, then South Carolina State on Sept. 16.
As the season progresses, the Rattlers will host a series of matches at Lawson Center. These matchups include a showdown against Georgia Tech on Sept. 10, a doubleheader against Southern University and Prairie View A&M on Oct. 9, and a face-off with Arkansas Pine Bluff on Oct. 29.
The Rattlers also have home conference matches scheduled against Alabama State, Alabama A&M, Mississippi Valley State, and Jackson State. After the SWAC matches, the Rattlers will host North Florida on Oct. 3, in their final non-conference match.
Following five straight home matches, the Rattlers will travel to Houston, Texas, for the first SWAC Cluster with matches versus Southern, Texas Southern, and Prairie View A&M.
The Rattlers will stay on the road with three straight road matches at Bethune-Cookman, Alabama State, and Alabama A&M before returning to Daytona Beach for their second SWAC Cluster with matches versus Alcorn State, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, and Grambling State.
After the final SWAC Cluster, the Rattlers will head to Mississippi Valley State and Jackson State for their final road matches of the season. They come home for the season-finale against Bethune-Cookman on Nov. 10.
The SWAC Tournament will be held at Prairie View A&M during Nov. 17-19.
