Rattlers double event wins in second meet of season

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Florida A&M track and field team had an impressive performance at the UAB Vulcan Invite.

 During the indoor weekend meet, the team doubled its event wins from its previous outing this season. 

The athletes who accounted for the big finishes included Tionna Brown, Joseph Derosier and Rori Lowe. The women’s “A” 4×400 relay team also compiled a first-place finish.

Brown’s won in the 60-meters race, while Joseph Derosier took the 60-meter hurdles and Rori Lowe the 400-meters race. In addition to the women’s 4×400 relay win FAMU finished the day with 11 medalists. 

The Rattlers will make their next start in Columbia, S.C., at the Carolina Challenge. The two-day event begins Friday. They will return for South Carolina Invite Feb. 2-3.

During last weekend’s meet, Brown won in a time of 7.42 in the 60-meter final. It was the fastest times in both the preliminary and final. She later ran a leg on the winning 4×4 relay team, which currently sits atop FAMU’s 2023 performance list. Lowe ran the third leg of the relay and also notched an individual win with a time of 56.58 in the 400-meter race. 

In men’s events, Derosier recorded both a personal best on his way to taking first place in the 60-meter hurdles prelim (7.86) before going on to win the finals in a time of 7.93.
