Special to the Outlook

Depth and experience, the two things that have been against the FAMU men’s basketball team up to this point in the season, should be in their favor when the Rattlers return for their second game at home.

The Rattlers, whose only win came at Lawson Center against Albany State, come home on Tuesday night to face Edward Waters. Just like the Rattlers, who will come into the game with one win, the Panthers have been struggling early in their season and had only one win heading into their previous two games before coming to Tallahassee.

In their last outing against the University of Georgia, the Rattlers fell to 1-6 with a 68-46 loss to the Bulldogs last Friday. The win was Georgia head coach Mike White’s 250th of his career. An estimated 6,673 showed up for the game at Stegeman Coliseum.

The Rattlers had two players score in double figures, led by Jordan Chatman, who had 12 points. Jordan Tillmon added 10 points, and Chase Barrs scored seven points, with six rebounds, two steals and two blocks.

FAMU forced 15 Georgia turnovers. The Rattlers turned those takeaways into 15 points on the other end of the floor. Barrs’ two steals led the way for Florida A&M.

The Rattlers struggled early, falling behind 34-23 heading into halftime.

Georgia kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 43-27 advantage before FAMU went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Chatman’s three, to shrink the deficit to 43-33 with 11:38 to go in the contest. Georgia responded and outscored the Rattlers the rest of the way. The Rattlers took care of business in the paint, recording 14 of its 23 points in the lane.
