Raa Principal Named Distinguished Educator of the Year

Giselle Marsh, principal of Augusta Raa Middle School, has been selected as the Glenn-Howell Distinguished Educator of the Year Award for Leon County Schools.
Marsh has worked as principal for two years now and in that time she not only built relationships with her faculty and staff but with her students and parents as well.
Marsh says that being able to have a community where parents and children are involved and belong makes everybody want that community to be the best place it can be.
“I think having personal relationships takes learning to another level. I’m a strong believer of making a school community a place where children want to belong so they want to do their best,” said Marsh.
Prior to being principal at Raa Middle School, Marsh was an assistant principal at Cobb Middle School and before that she taught chemistry to seniors at Chiles High School.
She received both her bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and Education and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Florida State University.
Born and raised in Kinston Jamaica, Marsh says that she came to Florida to come to school. During college, Marsh worked at an ecological lab. She says through that experience she got to know Tallahassee for more than just FSU’s campus. She got to see the community meet families and teach children as well.
Marsh says that working with many different people and learning from many different positions she attributes the things that she has done to what she has learned from so many different people along the way.
Christopher Cowart, who has been the assistant principal at Raa Middle school says that he is proud of Marsh and couldn’t think of a more deserving person to win the Glen-Howell distinguished educator award.
“She has the best interest of our students at heart it’s been a really great experience working with someone as dedicated,” said Cowart.
Marsh’s mother Carol Marsh says that she is elated that Marsh was selected for the award and that over the years she instilled in Marsh to be honest, sincere, kind and to love God.
“She is self-motivated and a great leader and I have no doubt that she would continue to make me proud because I instilled in her important values,” said Carol.
