New president for 100 Black Men of Tallahassee Area, Inc.

After four years as president of the Tallahassee chapter of 100 Black Men of America, Inc., Ronald M. Joe, Sr. passed the gavel to Eric Friall at the organization’s January meeting. Friall, a graduate of The Florida State University has served as president-elect and secretary of the 100 Black Men of Tallahassee, Inc. (100 BMOTA) for two years. Friall becomes the sixth president of the organization which was formed in 1992 by Tommy Mitchell. All former presidents, which include Charles Wright, Judge Errol Powell, and Attorney Chriss Walker are active in the chapter. The non-profit organization’s main goal is to empower the youth in this community to make positive life choices that will enable them to maximize their potential and chances for success. The 100 BMOTA fulfills that goal through its four pillars – Mentoring, Education, Health and Wellness and Economic Empowerment. Last year, the organization, with help from its sponsors, donors and community members, awarded $26,500 in scholarships to students in the Tallahassee area. It also boasts a Saturday Success Academy as well as a Summer Success Academy. The organization gives back to the community by participation in various activities including Comcast Cares, Sickle Cell Walk/Run, Project Annie, and Riley House Rock-a-Thon as well as mentoring with the Leon County Schools.
Besides Friall, the other officers are: Dr. Marvin Henderson, President-elect, Earl Levison, Secretary, Sherwood Brown, Treasurer, Wilbur Johnson, Parliamentarian, Rev. Robert Butler, chaplain and Ronald Joe, Immediate Past president. The Board of Directors/Committee Chairs are: Dr. Marvin Henderson , Mentoring, Rev. Ernest J. Lane, Programs, Juan Collins, Development, Selvin Cobb/Gerald Williams, Membership, Torrece Porter, Communications, Tommeron D. Timmons, Collegiate 100 Advisor, Renard Head/Esiasis Lee, Health and wellness and Pete Williams, Economic Development. Ralph Byrd, Randy Cross, Robert Jackson, Eric Shannon and Lawton Williams are Board Members at Large.
