The Chi Upsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, installed new officers for years 2016-17. Leading this group of community servants is President Marilyn Henderson Hudson, a Tallahassee native and a graduate of Florida A&M University. Initiated into the Beta Alpha Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated on the campus of Florida A&M University in 1979, Hudson was a charter member of Chi Upsilon Omega chartered in 2004 and served as the Chapter’s first Financial Secretary. She also served as Vice-President and Chairman of the Chapter’s programs, in the previous administration.
Helping the President lead the Chapter is Vice-President Andralica McCorvey-Reddick. McCorvey-Reddick is Chairman of Chapter programs and is responsible for the implementation of the international programs at the local level. McCorvey-Reddick is a native of Pensacola, Fla., and is a graduate of Florida A&M University. She was initiated into the Beta Alpha Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated at Florida A&M University during the fall semester of 1982.
The Chi Upsilon Omega Chapter celebrated 11 years of service to the Greater Tallahassee and Jefferson County areas on December 18, 2015. This very active chapter has awarded more than $45,000 in scholarships and community projects. To continue in service to all mankind, the chapter has developed a full calendar of events for 2016. The Chapter will also participate in a joint founders day celebration with other local chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, the weekend of Jan. 22-24. On Feb 5, the Chapter will promote awareness of heart disease by turning the traditional sorority color pink to red in the national recognition of Pink Goes Red for a Day and on Feb. 6, the Chapter’s annual Father Daughter Dance will be held at the Antique Car Museum in Tallahassee. Plans are also underway to attend the South Atlantic Regional Conference in Myrtle Beach, SC., March 23-27. Other upcoming events for the Chapter are the annual Pink Hat Tea where the focus is on health and wellness and a fundraising dance to support scholarships and other community projects in June.
