Special to the Outlook

 

We are asking all of the citizens of this good community to be patient and remain positive because Mayor Andrew Gillum, the city and county officials, as well as the first responders are doing their best to restore power to all neighborhoods and businesses.

 

The hurricane had a serious impact on the quality of life for many people; over 90,000 homes and businesses were out of power.  It is because of the exceptional work of the utility companies and good Samaritans that many homes and businesses now have electricity.

 

We know that some homes, businesses and communities are still without power.  Nevertheless, the mayor and others are determined to have the power back up for all of us.  The faith community wants to encourage our people to continue to exercise good citizenship, look out for your neighbors, and please don’t let politics get us distracted! In times like these, we are one community, regardless of race or political affiliation.

 

Going forward, we will put in place a ministry that we are calling “Operation Help” to support our seniors, the sick, our children and neglected communities to overcome the aftermath of this storm.  Many of our seniors on fixed incomes will need our help to buy and replace groceries, to clean up their yards, and to make sure the sick at home have proper care and are not overlooked.

 

We will have the “Community Unity” meeting Monday, Sept 12,  at 6:00pm at the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 224 North Martin Luther King, Jr., Boulevard. We are inviting our citizens to come out and let us know their needs.  We will work together to rebuild our communities and help the less fortunate.  This is our mission!
