The start of the 2015-2016 basketball season for Coach Bruce Daniels and the Leon Lady Lions has both the coach and the team expecting to achieve more than they did last year.

Another year presents Daniels and his players another chance to mature and get better as a team. The Lady Lions return all of their players from a team that went 9-19 in 2015 and was runner-up in the district 7A-2 playoffs.

“I’m looking forward to the team improving in all areas (offensively and defensively),” Daniels said.

Daniels realizes that with maturity comes growth and he hopes that growth can transfer over onto the hardwood.

“Our team is young and a little bit more mature,” he said. “I think that can take us a very long way this season.”

The Lady Lions will count on the leadership of senior players Eleana Daniels and Rebekah Green, who both played varsity basketball for four and three years, respectively. Daniels, the coach’s daughter, will be relied on because she has played varsity basketball the longest.

Daniels feels as if this is the best team he has had since he began coaching the Lady Lions.

One of the most interesting things about the Lady Lions this year is the return of players Bethany Barnes, Megan Guerrera and Eleana Daniels who all suffered Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) tears last year.

Daniels said that the progress the players have made to get back to full strength has been remarkable and he expects them to be a huge part of the team’s success this year.
