Every day we make a choice. No matter how little, these choices impact our lives.

Kevius Goodson (KG) made the choice several years ago to achieve greatness, and he believes he is well on his way.

Goodson’s Mobile Detailing has been recognized on a national stage for its excellence, as the winner for the second year in a row, in the Best Car Wash Detail Shop category at the Steve Harvey’s Neighborhood Awards.’

The 2015 Neighborhood Awards or as Harvey refers to them “The Hoodies,” were held Aug. 8 in Atlanta, Ga.

With thousands in attendance, the awards show, over its 13-year run, has become a star-studded weekend long event that shines a spotlight on popular businesses in communities across the United States.

KG, the owner of Goodson’s Mobile Detailing, references the hit song by Drake titled “Back to Back” saying it was made especially for him being that he is now a consecutive winner.

Goodson attended the awards ceremony with his sister, Montessia Allen from Tampa, who was nominated in the best teacher category.

“We were there the entire weekend together along with my fiancée, our mother and other family members. Everything was amazing,” said Allen.

Because Allen and Goodson made a promise to each other to bring the other on stage if they won, Allen got to experience this win with her brother.

At the pre-award show luncheon, the two sat and prepared for what they would say if they did win.

“We were going over what we would say if we won,” said Allen. “I’m an educator so I’m just grateful for the recognition to be top four in the nation, but we all knew that it would be most beneficial for KG if he won because he has a business that could profit from it.”

According to Goodson, this recognition on a national stage has been extremely beneficial for business.

“It has brought in a lot of diversity when it comes to my clients, and I’m nothing but thankful.”

Goodson is so appreciative because he admits that he was not very confident he would win this year.

“I really didn’t think I was going to win this time,” said Goodson. “After my sister didn’t get her award, it knocked my confidence down because we had similar campaigns.”

With his increase in popularity after last year’s awards and social media campaigning Goodson was able to garner enough votes to come out with a win yet again.

“I actually follow him on Instagram, and that’s how I knew how and when to vote,’ said Joseph Miles, customer.

It is also through social media that Goodson has been able to maintain his clientele despite no longer having a permanent location.

“Our previous location was bought out, so we are mobile at the moment, but I have big plans for the future. I’d like to eventually have multiple shops in different cities.”
Although he aspires to expand outside of Tallahassee, many residents view a win for Goodson as a win for all of Tallahassee.

“I actually heard them announce the nomination on the radio, and I don’t know him or anything, but I was proud of my city because he was nominated,” said Tallahassee resident, Tamika Turner.

Goodson credits his community for all that he has been able to accomplish, so he makes it a goal to give back by speaking and sponsoring numerous community events, such as his recent back to school drive.

Goodson chooses time and time again to take initiative in the community as a motivational speaker. And that, he says, is what makes him unique.

“I think what sets me apart from so many other business owners is that I am constantly in the community,” said Goodson. “It’s not just about this award. It’s about being able to go out and give back.”
