LASC, 93 years old and still serving

The members of the Ladies Art and Social Club (LASC) held its 93rd Anniversary Dinner Meeting on Dec. 18, 2017 at the Jake Gaither Community Center. As has been their custom for years, and as one of their community service projects, the Club brought gifts for a Christmas Connection family. This year’s family, a mother and her five children, received all the gifts from their wish lists, including tablets for each of the five children, and a laptop and printer for the home.
The dinner meeting was hosted by LASC members, Dr. Jerrlyne Jackson, Mrs. Evelyn English, Mrs. Dorothy McCaskill and Mrs. Mae Williams. Dr. Jackson, president, opened the meeting with a Christmas prayer that was sent by LASC chaplain, Mrs. Pamela Scott. The mood of the season adorned the room as the members dined on Christmas china and sat at tables beautifully decorated with red and green tablecloths and nine tall candles representing each decade of the Club’s existence and three small Christmas tea lights representing the three years. Vice-president Mrs. Betty Smith, conducted the short business meeting followed by members sharing news about themselves, their families and travels.
