Lady Trojans want to take care of unfinished business

After falling short of their goal last season, the Lincoln High School Lady Trojans have hopes to end their season in Lakeland as a contender for the class 7A state championship.
“I think like every year with any coach, but our expectation is to make it to the Final Four in Lakeland,” said Head Coach Rod Mack “

 
Last year the Lady Trojans won their district championship, but fell short in the first round of the regional championship, losing 42-27 to Niceville High School.
This season they are taking an unfinished business approach.

 
“I think this year the girls want it more,” Mack said. “They’ve all come to the conclusion that they want the same outcome. They want to go all the way to Lakeland not just to compete, but to actually win a championship ring.”

 
His players’ commitment to attain that goal is unwavering, Mack said.

 
“Everybody came this summer with a mindset of working hard and doing what was necessary, which is not only to win games but to get to know each other and become a better team,” he said. “Sometimes you have teams that have individual goals and then you have team goals, but one thing with this team is that we have a team goal.

 
Mack returns most of his roster from last season, led by 6-foot sophomore guard Ariel Young. In addition to Young, Trojans’ junior point guard Daijah Turner is another key contributor.

 
“I really want to go to Lakeland,” said Young who averaged 10 points per game last season. “My dad was able to make it there three times while he was in high school and he’s always told me about it. I’ve always wanted to go.”
