High school students receive MLK scholarships

Four high school senior students, two each from Rickards and Godby, were the first recipients of the MLK Scholars award in the amount of $1,000 each. The scholarship is a collaboration between Leon County Commissioner Bill Proctor, Inter-Civic Council of the Southern Christian Leadership Council, the MLK Foundation of Florida Inc., and Leon County Government. Present at the Rickards ceremony (above from left to right) were, Steve Beasley, MLK Foundation, Inc., Commissioner Proctor, award recipient Phillip Harvey, principal Douglas Cook, award recipient Curtisa Brown and. Rev. William Foutz of the ICC-SCLC. The Godby awards (photo below from left to right) were presented by Rev. Foutz , Beasley, recipient Alias Winfield II, principal Desmond Cole, recipient Corneeceya Brown, and Commissioner Proctor.
