The Capital Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association presented 16 awards honoring local public relations practitioners at its Local Image Awards ceremony.

The Image Awards competition is conducted annually by FPRA to recognize outstanding public relations programs and to encourage and promote the development of public relations professionalism in the Big Bend region. This year’s ceremony was held on April 27.

“Tallahassee is full of talented public relations professionals from a wide range of backgrounds, including government agencies, state associations, nonprofits and private companies,” said Holly Brooks, president of the FPRA Capital Chapter. “The Local Image Awards ceremony is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate these professionals for the excellent work they do each day.”

The theme for this year’s Local Image Awards ceremony was “PR Pep Rally: A Celebration of the Spirit of PR.” It featured performances by the James S. Rickards High School Marching Band. During the event, the FPRA Capital Chapter presented a donation to the Rickards band program, along with a Certificate of Appreciation for their participation in the ceremony.

The Capital Chapter also awarded the 2023 PR Intern of the Year Award to Asya Griffin, an intern at the Leon County Property Appraiser’s Office. This award recognizes a student or recent graduate who demonstrated exceptional performance, professional growth and a dedication to improving their marketing and communications skills throughout their internship.

“Today’s students are tomorrow’s business and community leaders,” said Leon County Property Appraiser Akin Akinyemi. “By providing students with opportunities to gain real-life, hands-on experience in their fields of interest, we help to ensure a more experienced and educated workforce exists to support the needs of future generations. We are proud to see Asya’s contributions recognized by FPRA.”

Griffin was selected by Akinyemi to serve as a Fellow in the 2022-2023 Fellowship for Innovation and Excellence in Property Assessment. She serves as an intern assigned to the Public Relations Department. Since joining the LCPA team, Griffin has assisted with developing and executing strategic outreach and community education initiatives for the office.

The Image Awards competition includes four divisions of categories: Public Relations Programs, Collateral of Public Relations, Digital Tools of Public Relations and Student Projects in Public Relations.
