State legislators will gather in Tallahassee next week for a special session that was called by Gov. Ron DeSantis. The special session was called to address mask policies, vaccine requirements and other issues related to COVID-19. DeSantis, who called this special session in October, has been asking that businesses mandating vaccination lose protections they’ve enjoyed through laws passed last year.
Sen. Geraldine Thompson (D-Palm Beach) expressed disappointment that the special session will be taking place. She also cited the governor’s stance against CDC suggested policies.
“The governor is only doing this because he is at war with the President Joe Biden. That’s the only reason he’s doing this,” said Thompson. She went on to note the cost of the session.
Special session begins Monday and will require legislators to spend a week in Tallahassee just prior to Thanksgiving. Democratic representatives and senators have expressed disdain over the special session.
