Special to the Outlook
Tallahassee Community College has been named by the Goodwill Industry of Big Bend as its 2021 Mission Partner of the Year. TCC was honored at Goodwill’s annual meeting and Power of Work Banquet last Wednesday.
“Goodwill of the Big Bend is such a vital organization in our community,” said Jim Murdaugh, President of TCC. “From retail, to housing, to providing career training and job placement, they believe that every person should have the opportunity to succeed. It is our honor to be recognized for this award.”
TCC was nominated for the its work done in partnership with Goodwill Industries, to create program and services that remove barriers and provide a path to employment and self-sufficiency through workforce development. Kimberly Moore (PhD), Vice President for Workforce Innovation & TCC2WORK, has worked hand-in-hand with Goodwill Industries to plan, strategize, and promote training and education for those who have had brushes with law enforcement to be provided a second chance that creates a win-win for individuals and our communities.
“TCC is extremely grateful to be a recipient of the Mission Partner of the Year award, stated Moore. “This award directly aligns with our core value of being the partner of choice and is evidence of our continued commitment to create partnerships that make our community better.”
TCC was also instrumental in Goodwill’s recent receipt of the Department of Labor grant funding that supports the IGNITE program. Goodwill was only 1 of 5 in the nation to receive this grant award. The funding will be used to expand the partnerships with TCC, employers, , economic development organizations, and community-based organizations. The collaboration is in an effort to create a pipeline of skilled workers to fill existing job openings and, meet employer needs for those with goals for expansion.
