On Oct. 16, the Florida State University men’s basketball team and Coach Leonard Hamilton hosted their annual “Jam with Ham” Fan Day.

The festivities kicked-off at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center with lots in store including the highly anticipated slam dunk contest, three-point shootout, Garnet and Gold scrimmage game, autographs, posters, performances from the Florida State Golden Girls dance team and hip-hop group Travis Porter.

After busting a few dance moves like the “whip/nae nae” during a dance routine with the Golden Girls, the team warmed up before putting on a show for the Nole Nation.
During the 3-point shootout, five-star recruit Malik Beasley made his Seminole debut. Beasley made it to the finals but came up short to defending champion, Devon Bookert.

“My favorite FSU player would have to be Malik Beasley, because of his explosiveness to the rim,” said Kiair Crouch, a sophomore from Atlanta, Ga.

Following the 3-point shootout was the Garnet and Gold scrimmage game. Thanks to Devon Bookert’s numerous long range shots, the Garnet team was able to escape with a very close victory of 34-33.

Adrian Reid, a senior from Kingston, Jamaica, said he is looking forward to the basketball season. “I’m not looking forward to a specific game but I’m very excited for the season to start.”

While this event was about the “heroes of the hardwood”, a special tribute was made to the brave men and women that serve in the U.S. armed forces.
Florida State will begin 2015-2016 season against Lynn University on Monday, Nov. 2 at the Donald L. Tucker Center.
