Ferrell gets easy win in second pro fight

Willie Ferrell comes out victorious in his second professional bout.

Willie Ferrell seemed almost flawless in scoring a unanimous four-round decision over Demarcus Kemp, but Ferrell’s trainer hedged on calling it a perfect performance this past Saturday night.

 
“He was a little bit more comfortable tonight; a little more shaper,” Jones said. “You can never give a person an A because in boxing you’re always trying to reach the next level. But I will give him a B-.”
Ferrell scored the win by a unanimous decision in front of a patrician crowd at Gaither Gymnasium. It was the second straight win for the former FAMU football player turned boxer.

 
Kemp, who was making his boxing debut after an extensive career in mixed martial arts, said the fight came down to one deciding factor. He could not get inside on Ferrell.

 
“He kept his head movement just out of my range for me to land most of my shots,” Kemp said. “He made me miss more than I made him miss. That’s the tale of the tape.”

 
Ferrell’s sleepy lead jab and quick straight rights down the middle were what bothered his opponent most of the night.

 
“That was something we worked on all training camp,” said Jones. “For the most part he utilized it. Had he utilized it enough, he would have got the knockout.”

 
Despite not throwing his left jab and right as much, Ferrell managed to take control of the fight early. His sharpness and polished style of fighting dominated Kemp’s wildness. This was evident by the third round when his comfort began to set-in, said Ferrell.

 
“I heard my trainer Kimmus tell me let’s get to work,” Ferrell said. “Once I heard that, I was able to be comfortable. It was nothing that was going to stop me. Nothing that was going to have me to lose.”
