FAMU’s athletic director Kortne Gosha, who recently inherited a department that has been struggling with a financial shortfall for several years, is quickly taking steps to reduce the deficit.

Gosha appointed Ron Reeves as Associate AD for Revenue Generation of Athletics last Friday.

Reeves comes to Tallahassee after serving as Southern Illinois University – Carbondale’s Assistant Athletic Director for Development.

He is the third major hire by Gosha since his arrival in November. Earlier this month, he named Keith McCluney Deputy Director of Athletics and Chief of Staff, and Karai Lockley to the position of Senior Associate Athletic Director for Business and Finance.

“We are excited to Welcome Ron to our family and the Highest of Seven Hills,” Gosha said. “As we realign our staff, our strategic plan focuses on external affairs and revenue generation operations. Ron’s external and development experience will enhance all areas of our department. Ron’s background brings a diverse skill set and institutional demographic. In his role he will oversee communications, ticketing, marketing, the Rattler Athletic Fund, vending, licensing and corporate partnerships.”

“I am blessed to be afforded this opportunity to work with VP/Athletics Director  and the Rattler athletics staff,” Reeves said. “Having the opportunity to work within a staff that cares about the student-athlete, you as a member of the staff, and values your expertise is the main reason why we will be successful at FAMU.

“I look forward to working with the Rattler Nation, becoming a part of the community, and more importantly serving our student-athletes and supporters on The Hill.”

Reeves is a native of Detroit, Mich.

During his time at SIU-C, Reeves led the Saluki Athletic Scholarship Fund (SASF), the official fundraising arm for the Athletics Department. Under his guidance, the SASF set records including: annual fund $1.2 million, Giving Tuesday $44K, and SIU-C Day of Giving $202K. Reeves created the SASF branding campaign Saluki Stories, telling the stories of student-athletes, donors, and administration. Reeves also oversaw the Saluki Wheels Club, premium inventory for football and basketball, and stewardship. Reeves’ team oversaw the S Club (Letterman) that created the initiative of Legacy Plaza, a paver campaign that placed personalized bricks of recognition. Reeves was a part of the team that secured SIU-C’s largest corporate naming rights deal with Banterra Bank that rebranded SIU Arena as Banterra Center. This 10-year naming-rights agreement offers up to $10 million for SIU-C, with a $4-million guarantee for the first 10 years. Additionally, Reeves created the department’s inaugural Black History Month celebration in athletics.
