FAMU Welcomes the Class of 2019
Fraternity members helped incoming freshmen move into FAMU Villages.

With bright skies and positive attitudes, Florida A&M University President Elmira Mangum and her senior leadership staff welcomed incoming freshmen to ‘The Hill.’ On Aug. 19, families from all across the United States filled the parking lot of the institution’s Villages for Move-In Day.
“I am excited to share that experience with them and to meet our new Rattlers while getting reacquainted with returning students,” said Mangum. “This time of the year is always inspiring because it sends a clear reminder of why we are all here – to provide access and opportunity to a high-quality education and prepare our students to be great contributors to society’s needs.”
While pushing dollies and lugging heavy crates, students filed all of their belongs from the trunks of their parents’ vehicles to their new homes for the next year. Some seem as if they were ecstatic to be embarking upon a new journey in life while others were just ready to get out of the heat.
But just like the saying goes, “to whom much is given, much is expected.” In this case, the incoming freshman class feels like they have so much to offer FAMU and they are expecting great things in return.
Sydney Green, an incoming pharmacy student, is offering up her leadership skills and in return is expecting for FAMU to take her places that she could never dream of.
“I`m expecting a journey and with that journey comes a legacy,” said Green. “I want to develop a different mindset. I want that culture to be instilled in me. I want to gain a new mindset, a new perspective because that is what I see in the students that attend FAMU.”
On this journey through college, moving in is just the first step. Now the new Rattlers on campus are charged with the task of buckling down and diving head first into their books. Marcella David, provost and vice president of student affairs, believes that it is important for students to know that they have a support system on campus.
