FAMU Way Celebrated Grand Opening

A grand ceremony for opening the first portion of FAMU Way was held on Oct 15. The city of Tallahassee, Leon County and Blueprint 2000 partnered up to host the event.
The grand ceremony was held Thursday morning on FAMU Way, just west of Wahnish Way. The Tallahassee community was invited to get a close look at the improvements of the first portion of this milestone project.

 
Vince Long, Leon County Administrator, was thrilled about the enhancements of this portion of the trail.

 
“It’s so exciting to see how this section of the trail complements and enhances this beautiful project undertaking by the city of Tallahassee,” said Long.

 
Long continued to say “as the construction continues we look forward to all recreational opportunities that this project will provide for our future.”
The Mayor of Tallahassee, Andrew Gillum, spoke on the objective toward constructing such a unique trail.

 
“Staff and private developers who worked on this wanted to create a road that would rival any around the nation when it came to beauty and to elegance and not to mention functionality,” said Gillum.

 
FAMU Way project will eventually extend FAMU Way from Wahnish Way to Lake Bradford Road. Blueprint 2000’s Capital Cascades Trail project will not only be a roadway for vehicles, but it will contribute to a biking path and walking path for pedestrians.

 
Alan Williams, Florida House Representative, defines the significance and value the trail will hold for the Tallahassee community.
“This FAMU Way is going to be our Broadway in New York and our Peachtree in Atlanta,” said Williams.
