Florida A&M University’s Residence Dining Hall is undergoing renovations to satisfy the needs of the growing student body.

When students return to campus this fall, they will see an improved version of what is known as “the Café.” The remodeling project will update the furniture, flooring and finishes, as well as the overall facility’s décor and functionality.

Rebecca Brown, assistant vice president for Finance and Administration, said students and employees will appreciate the upgraded dining space.

“One of our strategic priorities is to remain relevant so that our guests can have a great dining experience,” said Brown. “The remodel will certainly be a more modern, state-of-the art facility with a sleek new look.”

The Residence Dining Hall currently accommodates 625 seats. Guests will enjoy all of the same food stations, with the addition of the Mongolian Grill. The renovations are set to be completed by August.

While renovations are occurring in the Residence Dining Hall, The Hub is open this summer, serving breakfast lunch and dinner on weekdays, and brunch and dinner on the weekends. Chick-Fil-A is also open this summer, Monday thru Thursday, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

In addition to the cosmetic changes, many new upgrades include items that improve efficiency, as well as mechanical and electrical upgrades that aren’t noticeable.

“All of these improvements were needed,” said Carey Brown, assistant director of operations for Business and Auxiliary Services. “With the opening of The Hub, our newly opened second dining hall on the south end of campus, the summer is the perfect time to make improvements to the Residence Dining Hall.”

Metz Culinary Management, FAMU’s dining provider, is committed to providing a wide variety of menu options, which also includes healthy choices such as vegan, vegetarian and gluten free across the campus. The new look in the Residence Dining Hall will offer a fresh, new ambiance for students to enjoy the delicious entrees and food options.

“Our staff is very excited for the students to come back and see all the new changes, and we look forward to serving them,” said Tripp Goodwin, general manager for Metz Culinary Management.

Both the Residence Dining Hall and The Hub will be open during the fall semester. Both locations will serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner on weekdays.  The Residence Dining Hall will also serve brunch and dinner on the weekends. The Hub will be closed on weekends.  All other campus dining locations will also re-open in the fall.
