Fall Seed Library Program draws a crowd for kickoff

The public will have a huge variety of seeds to choose from during the Leon County Fall Seed Library Program. Hundreds of residents attended the kickoff for the giveaway at Leon County Main Library down town.

Saturday’s event was held in conjunction with the UF/IFAS Leon County Extension, the Leon County Public Library, the Leon County Office of Sustainability, and Friends of the Library.

Those who showed up got an opportunity to do hands-on seeding activities, get information about vegetable gardening techniques and sustainable gardening practices, and an Ask-a-Master-Gardener booth. Personnel were also on hand to answer gardening questions.

The Fall Seed Library will be available at all Leon County Public Library. While supplies last, citizens can check out up to five seed packets per month using their library card, or three packets per month without a library card. 

Some of the fall seed varieties are Apollo Arugula, Calabrese Italian Broccoli, Dark Green Italian Parsley, Detroit Dark Red Beet, Dragon Purple Carrots, Flashy Trout Back Romaine Lettuce, Georgia Southern or Creole Collards, Misato Rose Fall Radish, Slow Bolt Cilantro and Suzhou Baby Bok Choy.
