Despite COVID-19, Charmettes crown a Debutante
Special to the Outlook
Tallahassee experienced an elevated evening of beauty and elegance during the annual Debutante Presentation hosted by the Leon County Chapter of The Charmettes Inc.
Despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, eight Debutantes were presented with limited attendance late last year in a beautifully decorated Christmas-themed ballroom at the Florida State University Center Club.
The Chapter’s signature event could not be derailed by the pandemic. Since 1969 The Charmettes have introduced an impressive group of talented, focused, and beautiful high school seniors at a formal presentation and ball.
Each young lady was recommended and selected because of her academic achievements, community service and role model strengths.
Ameion C. Hamlet was crowned Miss Debutante 2020. She is the daughter of Jerome and Tammy Hamlet. She was presented by her father.
Ameion currently attends Florida Atlantic University where she majors in sociology. As a senior at Amos P. Godby High School, she was dual-enrolled at Tallahassee Community College and was named a two time All American in track and field.
The other 2020 Debutantes were Elon Davis, Amaya Maxwell, Alexis Scott, Jazlyn Byrd, Kiara Harper, Jabriya Hargrove and Ayonna Johnson.
The Debutantes had recently completed their freshman fall semesters at Spellman College, Florida Atlantic University, Clark Atlanta University, FAMU, and Tallahassee Community University. The young women represent our future doctors, researchers, attorneys, educators and scientists.
This year, local Charmettes will host their 50th Golden Anniversary Debutante presentation. To learn more about the organization, follow the Charmettes on Facebook and Instagram.
