Davidson wins gold, silver at Games

VICTORIA, B.C. –
Florida State freshman diver Joshua Davidson ended his junior career with a bang, bringing home gold and silver for the United States in the springboard events at the 2017 Junior Pan American Championships at the Saanich Commonwealth Place this past weekend.
“Josh has done a great job since arriving in Tallahassee,” FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. “He’s dealt with a couple of injuries and this week he showed what he’s made of. I’m really excited to have him on board.”
Davidson was one of three gold medalists for Team USA, taking the win by just over two points with a total of 518.00 after 10 dives on 3-meter. The Tomball, Texas native was solid throughout the round, receiving scores ranging from 6.0 to 9.0.
Each of his final five dives scored above 55 points as he made his move on his seventh dive, which was a 305 C (reverse 2 ½ somersault), scoring his highest total at 65.80. Davidson didn’t falter down the stretch, securing the gold.
Davidson joins his sophomore teammates Molly Carlson and Cameron Thatcher as a Junior Pan American Games gold medalists. Carlson struck gold in both 2013 and 2015 on 3-meter, while Thatcher won 3-meter synchro in 2015.
On Friday, Davidson reloaded for 1-meter, placing second with a score of 497.85, once again performing steadily throughout the round. Three of his final five dives tallied above 60 points as his 305 C again proved to be his best dive, scoring 66 points.
Davidson and the Seminoles will return to the Morcom Aquatics Center to face Minnesota on Oct. 7 at 10 a.m.
