Cunningham named to Bowerman watch list

Hurdler Trey Cunningham was named to the first edition of The Bowerman watch list for the 2021 yrack and field season last Thursday. He is one of 10 collegiate men to be named to the list by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The Florida State track and field star, who spent all 2020 season on the Bowerman watch list, currently leads the NCAA as he ran a 7.64 in the 60 meter hurdles on Jan. 16 at the Gamecock Opener to win the event title and to remain unbeaten collegiately.
The Winfield, Ala. native broke his own ACC championship meet record (7.60) last season to become the first man to win three consecutive conference 60-meter hurdle titles. He earned his third indoor All-American distinction along with being selected ACC Indoor Track Performer of the Year, and later was named ACC Indoor Scholar-Athlete of the year.
Cunningham etched his name in the Florida State record books on Feb. 14, 2020 by setting a school record of 7.51 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles. He also owns two of the top fastest times in NCAA History – No. 7 (7.51) and No. 8 (7.52).
The Bowerman, first awarded in 2009, is presented annually by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) to the year’s most outstanding collegiate male and female track athletes (indoor and outdoor combined).
This is the first of seven watch lists that will be featured throughout the 2021 NCAA track and field season. The next update will be on March 3 for the women and March 4 for the men following the indoor conference championships. The watch list represents the consensus among members of The Bowerman watch list committees, these committees will name semifinalists and make their recommendations to the Bowerman Advisory Board of whom they believe should be finalists for the award. In late June, The Board will choose from these recommendations for the three men’s and three top women’s finalists. The winners are announced as part of a grand presentation that takes place in conjunction with the annual USTFCCCA Convention in December.
