Christmas time stroll through Cascades Park

Under the bright yellow holiday lights, hundreds came out to the second annual Holiday Stroll through Cascades Park.

 
Spread throughout the 24-acre park, various performers showed up early to set up their stations and get in a quick practice session.

 
Mario Palmentieri, one of the organizers of the event, was running around trying to make sure everything was perfect before the scheduled 6 p.m. start time.

 
“We have nine different stations of entertainment throughout the park,” Palmentieri began as the smell of the fresh hot chocolate filled the air. “We were able to get everything from a violinist, the Belle Chior to Florida A&M University Essential Theater doing a version of a Christmas carol. So, there is a lot of neat things and something for everyone this year.”

 
A short time later, the event officially started and Cascades was filled with families and residents a like. All were treated to a free cup of hot chocolate (also cupcakes if you wanted to pay) and encouraged to take a map and follow the music.

 
Those in attendance were also able to watch a light show every 30 minutes at the Imagination Fountain.

 
“I saw an email on the city’s site about this event,” Elisha Northern, Tallahassee resident said as the Capitol Bells performed a Christmas song on the amphitheater. “I love the park and I thought it would be something nice to do and I’m excited to see FAMU Essential Theater.”

 
After the Capitol Bells finished their concert, the composer spoke to the audience, letting everyone know more about the local group.

 
Formed in 2009, Capitol Bells has 16 members who compose with five octaves of hand bells. They have played for concerts in churches, retirement communities and as a pre-concert performer for Florida State University.

 
“There is no better venue to enjoy our hometown talent than at our crown jewel, Cascades Park,” Mayor Andrew Gillum said. “This year’s Holiday Stroll promises to be even better than the last, so make sure you make it out on Saturday and get in the holiday spirit!”
Even when the event was coming to an end, the bright yellow holiday lights still shined and the sound of music still filled the air.
