On Saturday between 9 and 11:30 a.m., the Cancer Knockout Foundation will host a Cancer Symposium at the Sittig Hall Conference Center, located at 301 S. Bronough Street, next to Harry’s Restaurant in Kleman Plaza.
The symposium is being held to provide vital information about various cancers, including breast cancer—the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women.
Towanda Davila-Davis, Founder and CEO of the foundation said that the power-packed symposium will feature the following: Dr. Michelle Mitcham, “Empowerment & Self-Care;” Shanda Davis, “Winning After Cancer;” Dr. Joedrecka Brown Speights, “Fighting Cancer with Knowledge” and Kristie Kennedy Ward, “Inspired to Win!”
“This symposium is designed to provide an array of information from a multidisciplinary panel of speakers who will discuss important advances and respond to questions from the audience,” said Davila-Davis. “Our goal is to ensure that each attendee is able to expand their knowledge and understanding of cancer when this session has ended.”
The nonprofit Cancer Knockout Foundation has, since its 2015 founding, worked to raise awareness about breast cancer.
“The CKO Foundation was designed to educate cancer fighters/survivors, caregivers and the public on the latest advancements in cancer research and treatment,” said Davila-Davis, an eight-year breast cancer survivor. “Proceeds raised from our various events benefit the American Cancer Society, a number of other cancer-related organizations and provides direct scholarships to men and women battling the disease.”
Admission to the event is free and registration begins at 8:30 a.m. “Cancer may have started the fight but we have the opportunity to finish it…let’s Knock Cancer Out!” says Davila-Davis.
