BOG appoints Reed, Dortch for two FAMU

Thomas Dortch Jr. and Craig Reed are expected to join the Florida A&M University’s Board of Trustees, following the Board of Governors’ recommended appointment. Both candidates were selected unanimously.
FAMU still has a vacant chairman position. Trustee Cleve Warren is the current interim chairman. He replaced Rufus Montgomery, who abruptly resigned last fall, after an unsuccessful attempt to terminate president Elmira Magnum.
Around the same time, Karl White and Spuregon Williams resigned from the Board, creating the positions that White and Reed will fill.
FAMU was one of 12 universities addressed in the Board of Governors’ recent meeting.
“The two people appointed have enormous credentials and the references were really, really strong,” said Board of Governors member Adam Levine.
Reed, a 1986 FAMU graduate is the executive director of sourcing and linguistics at Dupont USA. He also is the chairman for Clark Atlanta SCM Executive Advisory Board.
Additionally, he served as a board member for National Minority Supplier Development Council and Howard University SCM executive advisory board. Dortch, a graduate of Fort Valley State University, earned a Master’s degree from Clark Atlanta University, where he serves as a trustee.
He currently serves as the President of Cornerstone Parking, Lancor Parking Management and chairman to TWDD, Inc.
His other involvements include being chairman of the 100 Black Men of America, Inc.
Under his leadership 100 Black Men of America expanded throughout the United States, Europe and the West Indies with 102 new chapters.
