Award-winning Caribbean singers to perform with Javacya Elite Chamber Orchestra
Special to the Outlook
Two award-winning Caribbean singers will perform in Tallahassee with the Javacya Elite Chamber Orchestra.
The headliner performer is Glacia Robinson, who will be making a return to Tallahassee. Lililita “Lili” Forbes, another award performer from the Caribbean, will make a special appearance during the concert, which is scheduled for April 21 at St. Peter’s Anglican Cathedral.
Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Admission is free, although attendees could make donations.
A native of Jamaica, Robinson will be making her second appearance in Tallahassee in a year.
Robinson is a multi-award-winning singer, songwriter, composer, producer, and anointed minister of music, praise and worship leader, missionary, humanitarian, and author. Forbes is a native St. Maarten, Dutch Antilles. Her ties to Tallahassee go back to her years as a student at Florida A&M University.
Robinson is a Caribbean Gospel Music Hall of Fame inductee who has received the prestigious Trail Blazer Award, and the Female Artist of the Year Award from the Caribbean Gospel Legends Music Awards.
Some of her other awards include The Jamaica Federation of Musicians (JFM) Best Gospel Song – “It’s Not Over Now” and The Marlin Awards Rock/ Pop Song of the Year – “Survivor.”
Robinson partnered with Food for The Poor for The Celebration of Hope Gala, raising funds to provide 37 families who lived in mud and rubble with brand new homes. The charity also matched every dollar raised for the homes, providing 1.2 million lifesaving meals for families living in areas of Haiti’s southern peninsula devastated by the 2021 earthquake.
In 2022 Robinson received the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award from U.S. President Joe Biden for her humanitarian efforts.
Singer, songwriter, teacher and music minister Forbes was born on the island of St. Marten, Dutch Antilles. After graduating from Florida A&M University with a BS in Music Education and a Minor in Theater, she pursued a career both locally and internationally as a teacher, worship and creative arts director and vocal coach.
Forbes worked seven years at Woodville Elementary and Middle School as a creative arts teacher. Professionally known by her stage name Lyrical Lynn, she has written, produced and released six albums for Jumelle, a duo act with her twin sister Ilismo. Three of those received Caribbean Gospel Music Marlin Awards.
The Javacya Elite Chamber Orchestra is under the direction of Patrice Floyd, Music Director; Ralph Jean-Paul, Sr., Conductor; and Julian White, Sr., Conductor-in-Residence.
