Ahmari Avin made a statement in his FSU debut at the Bob Hayes Invitational in Jacksonville, where he picked up his first win as a Seminole with a career-best discus throw of 45.27 meters.
The win came at the first outdoor event for FSU. It was also the first stop of a two-meet weekend, which concluded last Saturday at the Hurricane Invitational in Miami.
At the meet in Jacksonville, another Seminole, Ryan Driscoll, followed Avin in second place with a personal best of 42.52 meters.
Cooper Crowell secured second place in the hammer throw, establishing a career-best mark of 50.82 meters.
Ismael Kone notched first in the prelims of the 200-meter dash, clocking a time of 20.79.
“Nice win for Ismael at the Bob Hayes Invite,” said FSU track and field head coach Bob Braman. “His time is really good for an opening meet, and it’s likely a regional qualifying mark.”
Catherine Fleming placed sixth in the women’s Javelin throw, establishing a career best of 32.49 meters.
At the meet in Coral Gables, Miami, Tori Caroll finished in third place in the women’s long jump, measuring a leap of 5.98 meters. Skyler Reynolds followed Caroll in seventh place, earning a lifetime best of 5.88 meters.
Adina Jackson finished behind Reynolds in ninth place with a mark of 5.71 meters.
Kyvon Tatham rounded out the evening in the men’s long jump, placing third with a career best of 7.48 meters.
