Tyneal Haywood named Godby High School Teacher of the Year

Brother Tyneal Haywood, Gamma Mu Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., was named Teacher of the Year for Amos P. Godby High School in Tallahassee, Florida.

 
Haywood is the teacher who recently took Godby’s Young Gentlemen’s Day Club to Washington, DC for the grand opening of the National Museum of African American History and Culture. The young men were among thousands welcoming the Smithsonian Institution’s 19th and newest museum.
Forty-six students left the halls of Godby High School to enter the hallways of their ancestors’ past. The Gentlemen’s Club is a mentoring program that exposes male students to opportunities they may not otherwise get.

 
While on their four-day trip in D.C., the 46 students toured the monuments, including the Dr. Martin Luther King Memorial, local colleges, and Arlington National Park, where they paid tribute to one of Godby’s fallen soldiers, SPC Robert Allen Wise.

 
Haywood said, “I’ve had teachers sending me emails saying, I’ve noticed a change in this young man. They’ve also referred different gentlemen to me. We’ve seen a turnaround in some of those young men.”

 
Gamma Mu Lambda Chapter President, Dr. William Hudson said, Brother Haywood’s accomplishment being named Teacher of the Year at Godby High School, is just another indication of the kind of work Alpha Brothers, and GML Brothers in particular, are doing in the Tallahassee area to provide opportunities and exposure to our youth. We are extremely proud of his dedication, work and commitment toward “Scholarship, Manly Deeds and Love for all Mankind.” “His work will ensure that many of his students will finish high school and go to college,” Hudson added.
