FAMU/Lincoln High School class of 1959 held its Annual Scholarship Awards Luncheon on June 3, 2016 at Logan’s Steakhouse. The scholarship is offered to any graduating high school senior who is in good standing, and has a grade point average of 2.5 or above. This year’s recipients were Kaleigh Wingate and Andrew Giles, both graduates of Lincoln High School Class of 2016.

 
Each year since 2001, our class has awarded scholarships to two students in the amount of One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00). These awards are presented in the names of two illustrious principals—Matthew H. Estaras (FAMU High School) and Freeman D. Lawrence (the Original Lincoln High School)—who served as principals when we graduated in 1959. They were also exceptional educators and active leaders in the community.

 
Airrelle K. Gonzales, one of our past recipients and a 2009 graduate of Rickards High School, has kept us up-to-date of her postsecondary school progress. After graduating from Florida State University in April 2012 with a double major in Sociology and International Affairs, she enrolled at Howard University School of Law and graduated in the Spring of 2015. She proudly announces that she is currently Airrelle K. Gonzales, Esquire and is beginning employment with the Assistant District Attorney’s Office for Mecklenburg County in Charlotte, N.C. Airrelle is just one sample of our many notable scholarship winners.

 
Presently, the class is in the process of setting up an endowment to ensure that the scholarships are continued beyond our life time. We are seeking funds from classmates, organizations, businesses, individuals, etc. to assist us with this project.
