Stave Beasley, founder of the Capital Outlook more than four decades ago, was honored with the Reggie Rolle Champion Award at the Minority Enterprise Development’s MED Week Awards luncheon.

The event, which took place at the Turnbull Center last Thursday, was sponsored by the Office of Economic Vitality.

Other award recipients were Michelle Mitcham-McCord, Ph.D., with the MBE of the year; Tracey Gerdon Cohen, WBE of the year; and Rod McQueen, Chairman Award.

Beasley, 81, also owned Beasley and Associates, a consulting firm, and Brevard Street Developers.

“Past recipients of this award have paved the way for other people that own small businesses and want to stay in business, Beasley said. “It was an honor for me to be recognized after over 60 years in business.”

Beasley is currently president/CEO of the Martin Luther King Foundation and is well known for his volunteerism, especially with the Boy Scouts of America.

“Our young people need a positive vision so they won’t get tied up in gangs,” he said.
