Rattlers add two more transfers to volleyball team
Florida A&M volleyball continues to bolster its roster as the Rattlers look to defend the SWAC title, with the additions of Jada Taylor from Grambling State and Nina Sharpton from North Carolina State.
The Rattlers’ first place practice for the upcoming season is scheduled for Aug. 9.
“We are adding outstanding talent to our already high-level group,” said head coach Gokhan Yilmaz. “This class addressed several of our needs and makes our 2022 team a fun group. Now we turn our attention to turn this group into a great team. Our schedule will be extremely challenging, and I am confident we will rise to the occasion.”

She was one of the top defensive players in the nation in 2021, as she ranked 24th in digs per set, averaging 5.09, finishing second in the SWAC in the same category.
As a freshman at North Carolina State, Sharpton had one of the best seasons in Wolfpack history as she became the first freshman to eclipse 1,000 assists in a debut season with 1,012. Sharpton ranked sixin the ACC and 105th in the nation in total assists.
She was consistent regarding assists at a high level as she had 40-plus assists in 11 matches, including five matches with 50-plus. Furthermore, Sharpton was second on the team with 29 service aces, including a career-high six against Appalachian State.
Randolph in NBA Showcase
FAMU standout guard MJ Randolph was one of 28 players who were invited to Las Vegas to compete in the first one-day HBCU Showcase at the Thomas and Mack Center. Randolph finished his FAMU career with several honors, including being names SWAC Player of the Year last season.
The NBA has taken the initiative to increase the chances of players from HBCUs making it into the league. Robert Covington of the Los Angeles Clippers is the only player from an HBCU school currently in the NBA. No HBCU player has been drafted in a decade.
The HBCU Showcase consisted of drills and five-on-five games that were witnessed by international and NBA G League scouts.
