WASHINGTON — Ahead of the release of her Camila Cabello starrer “Cinderella,” director Kay Cannon opened up about working with stars Pierce Brosnan and Minnie Driver, who she said make for the perfect King and Queen.

In the film, Brosnan plays the role of King Rowan, the ruler of the mythical kingdom, and Driver will appear as his wife and Queen Beatrice, who is willing to challenge his authority when he gets it wrong.

Talking about Brosnan as the King, Cannon praised him as an actor.

“Pierce Brosnan is, after all, Bond… James Bond,” she said.

“He’s incredibly charming and has gravitas and wit that give the King some interesting layers. I loved that he was always open to making fun of himself, especially his singing.”

For the role of the Queen, Cannon felt lucky to have an actor of Driver’s caliber.

“She has a great singing voice, a dry wit, and sharp improv (sic) skills,” said Cannon.

“She also hit the dramatic moments and made them land with a stinging ferocity.”

The film’s star cast includes Idina Menzel as Cinderella’s stepmother, Billy Porter as Fab-G, and Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Robert.

The trailer of “Cinderella” presented the film’s stir on the traditional tale, where the princess is chasing her dream to become a fashion designer and open her boutique — “Dresses By Ella.”

As a new-age fairytale, it attempts to offer more layers to the desires and personality of the titular character.

The film’s producers are Leo Pearlman, James Corden, Jonathan Kadin, and Shannon McIntosh, and executive producers are Louise Rosner and Josephine Rose.

The anticipated musical incorporates pop songs from contemporary global artists and original songs by Cabello and Menzel.

The film, which will mark Cabello’s acting debut in Hollywood, was earlier scheduled to release theatrically in June 2021 by Sony Pictures. However, due to the rising covid-19 cases and shutting down of theaters, it was postponed.

Since a return to normalcy after the coronavirus pandemic remains unclear, the moviemakers decided to release “Cinderella” on streaming platform Amazon Prime.

Cannon took to her Twitter handle and revealed the news by sharing a news article by a media organization.

“I’m excited that we can now offer a wider audience around the world an opportunity to see our movie safely with their loved ones,” she wrote.

The film will launch exclusively around the world in over 240 countries and territories on Amazon Prime Video on Sept. 3, 2021.

As a singer, Cabello, 24, has turned to acting after the success of her album “Camila.” The “Havana” singer, who has released two studio albums to date, has earned three Grammy nominations.

Cabello separated from her all-girls group “Fifth Harmony” in 2016. The group consisted of Ally Brooke, Normani Kordei, Dinah Jane, and Lauren Jauregui.
